Happy Fourth!

We had a great 4th of July weekend! On Saturday, we took Jacob to our new favorite park by our apartment. It has great views of the Hudson River, has fun swings, and see-saws. We thought it would be fun to put Jacob in the baby carrier and swing with him, to see if he liked it. He did like it, but Kevin swung pretty high with him (which made me a little nervous) and he would get a funny look on his face. And again, he held on to the sides which was super cute:)

Here is Kevin mid-sneeze

so high!

The see-saw

After the park, we headed to Union Square and look who we saw walking by......

Michael Cera! He just looks like a regular guy. It was our first "real" celebrity spotting.

Later I did a little mini photo session with Jacob:) My friend Marne taught me some great poses to do with him!

After Church on Sunday, Kevin's sister Tara and our niece Makenna arrived to visit with us for a week! It was fun to have them here for the 4th of July. I decided to have some fun making patriotic food.

Meatball sandwiches with star-shaped foccacia bread

A patriotic cake. My friend Danielle posted this on her blog from another blog called Make it and Love it. Well, mine didn't quite turn out as good as the one on the blog, but it still looked patriotic. Makenna helped me decorate the outside.

I made the actual cake layers the night before, and one of them totally fell apart. So I thought it would be ruined. But, it turned out better than I thought it would have. I had to use extra frosting to fill in the gaps, so it looks very messy, but you can still tell it is a flag on the inside!

I also made homemade ice cream, because it is a tradition on the Nelsen side. This time I made cantaloupe sorbet. Yum.

Makenna and I decided to get tats. Fake ones, that is. I decided to get George Washington. They even glow in the dark! Leftovers from my teaching days.

Jacob usually goes to bed at 8:00, but we wanted him to see the fireworks, so we woke him up. I know, we are mean, just look how tired he was!

But I think he enjoyed the show. Here we are on the West Side highway (they closed it off so people could stand on it to see the fireworks) and we had a great view.

Kevin took some great shots with the "fireworks" setting on our camera.

Jacob was was staring up in amazement at the fireworks. I thought he would be afraid of the loud noises, but he did great!

The 4th of July continues to be my favorite holiday:)

That's awesome you made that flag cake! I'm so impressed! It looks really good. Can't even tell one of your layers was falling apart. :)
